PLAY:stl Showcases in Austin During One of Its Biggest Music Weeks
SEMI PRECIOUS WEAPONS
WHENwe think of all the great music we've seen over the years, inevitably our attention centers on Austin TX. For several days in March each year it is ground zero for all music lovers on the planet. The city is filled with the most talented musicians and the clubs overflow with performances that reaffirm why we love to put on a festival, why we have produced PLAYBACK:stl for the last six years and how good it is to get free stuff (food, drinks, swag, etc.). This year, just like last year, the gang from Bigfatcat Management and PR, PLAYBACK:stl, and PLAY:stl are proud and excited to present a showcase in the midst of all this festival happiness.
Thursday, March 13 from 3 to 6 p.m. PLAY:stl and Red Gorilla Music Fest (www.redgorillamusic.com) will be hosting a showcase featuring Semi Precious Weapons, The Feed, and John Boy's Courage at the Chuggin' Monkey in the thick of the music district of Austin. The show will be free and open to industry types, press, musicians, and the music loving public. We are hoping to have additional inducements (that would be food, drinks, and swag) and features to bring in the crowds. That is where you come in. Want to be part of our showcase? Want to tap this room of music's most important people? We are looking for a maximum of three sponsors to hang with us that afternoon. You can banner the walls; have your logo and information on posters, flyers, and the Web site; and have your people in the venue that afternoon to chat up the crowd. You will also receive a free advertising package on PLAYBACK:stl's Web site that will run through the Spring. We would also love to talk to you about being part of PLAY:stl's festival (9/18-20).
Preparation for PLAY:stl 2008 is already underway. Want to be part of it?
PLAY:stl 2007 featured 9 stages hosting 90 bands over three days last September. The bands played stages at Cicero's, Blueberry Hill, the Halo Bar, Vintage Vinyl, and outdoor stages throughout the Loop District of St. Louis. In all nearly 4,000 people attended shows and conferences which were a mixture of paid and free depending on location. The festival was put together by Bigfatcat Management and PR along with PLAYBACK:stl. The staff was a mixture of fantastic volunteers and sponsors included Boulevard Brewing/Miller Beer, Webster University, Hot Sauce Records, CheapTRX, Po Boy Drums, and a dozen more. The event was a great success with full clubs, great music, and much networking by bands and music industry representatives.
Here are some of the many opportunities coming up.
PLAY:stl in Austin
this March
PLAY:stl and Red Gorilla are joining together to showcase a bunch of fantastic band in Austin this March. Apparently there is some other festival going on that week (and we are hoping you will visit that as well) so maybe you will already be there. Details are coming together rapidly. The club is on lower 6th St. (very near Stubb's and Emo's) and will probably be on Thursday afternoon, March 13.
PLAY:stl 2007 was a great success with thousands of music fans visiting 9 stages and seeing 90 great bands from St. Louis and across the U.S. You and your business can be part of the process this year. We are looking for partners and sponsors to join us in bringing off a bigger and better PLAY:stl in 2008. This year we will once again be holding the festival in the Delmar Loop section of St. Louis for three days - September 18-20.
PLAY:stl will be opening submissions for this year's festival on Valentine's Day (what better way to say I LOVE YOU?) Be one of the 90 bands that will play over three days this year at the festival. Not only do you get to be in front of great audiences at fantastic venues, but you also get to network with industry folk, other bands, and hundreds of new fans.

Red Edmund CD release | 03.08.08
We've long been sweet on Red Edmund. Like many contemporary relationships, ours began online. You see, we've got a profile on the dating site Sonicbids, which has been making beautiful unions between bands and opportunities for years now. Our profile says something like, "Indie web-only music magazine seeking musicians with CDs for review. We like long walks on the beach in the moonlight, romantic music on the iPod, and a headphones jack for two." Red Edmund were just one of many who responded, but we knew from the very first note that this band was something special. We emailed, arranged a meeting. Red Edmund gave us some of their favorite music (their own, of course), which we instantly devoured through the above-mentioned headphones-built-for-two. We were falling, and we knew just what we had to do. [Read More]
