Bands, this is your chance to play one of the Midwest's biggest music festivals, the PLAY:stl Music Festival & Conference. In addition to a showcase on one of the best stages in St. Louis, you’ll enjoy panel discussions with industry pros and networking with bands from all over the country.Submissions are open now through August 10 through Sonicbids.
The PLAY:stl Music Festival & Conference returns after a wildly successful first year which saw attendance top 3,000 over the three-day event. PLAY:stl sold 500 three-day wristbands and nearly twice as many single admissions to participating clubs. Besides filling several venues with vastly talented musicians, PLAY:stl also offered panels which helped to educate bands and introduce them to members of the music industry, people who could help advance their careers.
The 2008 PLAY:stl will expand on its first-year goals: to bring the best independent music to St. Louis, to make that music accessible to the largest audience possible, and to promote the growth of the city’s music industry. PLAY:stl is also expanding to include movies as well as an interactive component, Inter:PLAY. Bloggers from across the country will be converging on St. Louis to tell the world about your rockstar expertise.
Once again, the festival will take place in St. Louis’s Delmar Loop District and will comprise a series of stages at venues including Cicero’s, Blueberry Hill, Brandt’s, The Delmar Lounge, and several other locations currently being negotiated. Admission to all venues will be with a wristband ($10 if purchased by August 16, $15 thereafter) or on a per-event cost ($10 to $15). This year we are featuring entertainment on Thursday and Friday nights and Saturday from 3 p.m. on. Panel discussions are scheduled for Friday and Saturday afternoons. The VIP kickoff party—open to sponsors, bands and invited guests—will take place Wednesday, September 17 at Cicero’s.
Participating bands will receive all-access wristbands, a goody bag from our sponsors, an invitation to the pre-party, assistance with merch sales, publicity on both the PLAY:stl and PLAYBACK:stl websites, mention in all PLAY:stl materials, and more. PLAY:stl will also be producing a compilation CD featuring approximately 20 bands playing the festival.
We look forward to welcoming you to St. Louis in September!

It Pays to Sponsor Sponsors are lining up to join us in presenting PLAY:stl 2008. As we mentioned we have a generous sponsor in the entity that is Webster University. Webster, one of the great colleges here in St. Louis (with excellent offerings for those interested in music, theatre, and business) signed on as our naming sponsor and is helping us to promote the festival to its students and also the crowds at the Verizon Amphitheater this Summer. Joining Webster are the Missouri Wine and Grape Board, ElleeVen, Paste Magazine, iChannel.fm, Live Feed, The Cringe, STL Sound Magazine, Red Gorilla Music Fest, ASCAP, KDHX-88.1, and the Holiday Inn. We are working towards several more and we would like for you to be one of them. Please contact us at 314.630.6404 for more information.
Wristband Sales Wristbands are available on the Web site for just $10 a piece. That is if you purchase them before 8/15. After that they go up to $15. So visit the Web site and get your bands early. Maybe you will get something special back for being one of the early purchasers!
